On the 1st December 2023, BWC’s Corporate Fundraising and Events Manager Deirdre Bruce-Brand attended BrightonSoup hoping to win funds for the BWC foodbank.
BrightonSoup is a platform for small local projects to pitch for seed-funding in a uniquely social, interactive community setting. Those in attendance listen to four pitches from local organisations all hoping to win money for their designated cause.
Taking to the podium to deliver her pitch Deirdre explained how more families were relying on the foodbank than ever and that BWC needed funds to buy additional food (including fresh fruit and vegetables), toiletries and menstrual products to meet the growing demand.
“There are women in this city who are struggling to feed themselves and their families. And we need to help them. We are currently spending an additional £300 a month to top up our food stores, so £1,000 would buy food for the next 3 months. If we are fortunate enough to win tonight, the funds would be used immediately to buy food.”
Following the pitches the audience enjoyed a delicious bowl of soup before voting commenced!
Deirdre’s pitch was successful, and she won £1000 for the foodbank! Thank you to everybody who voted.
Congratulations to Deirdre and thank you to BrightonSoup for hosting the inspiring event.
