BWC is Recruiting for New Trustees!

Are YOU Ready to Shape the Future of Women in Brighton?

At BWC, we believe that diverse voices make stronger decisions. We’re committed to building a Board of Trustees that reflects the communities we serve. Our current Board embodies so many of the qualities and experiences we feel represents a cross-section of those we support, allowing us to always keep every woman in mind when we plan for our future.

However, we recognise there are still some areas we can improve – and that’s why we’re especially keen to hear from women of colour who want to make a difference. Joining our board is your chance to help shape the future of an organisation dedicated to empowering women, championing equality, and creating lasting impact.

What is a Trustee?

Trustees are the people who guide and support the Women’s Centre at the highest level. They form our Board – a group of passionate volunteers who help us stay true to our purpose, uphold our values, and make sure we’re always acting in the best interests of the women and communities we serve.

As a trustee, you play a key role in shaping our future: helping us make strategic decisions, ensuring good governance, and championing equity, diversity, and inclusion in everything we do.

What Does a Trustee Do?

Trustees don’t manage day-to-day operations – instead, they provide vision, oversight, and accountability. Together, the Board:

  • Sets the charity’s overall direction and priorities
  • Supports and constructively challenges the leadership team
  • Monitors finances and resources to ensure sustainability
  • Upholds our values and legal responsibilities
  • Brings fresh ideas, lived experience, and professional insight to strengthen our work

Being a trustee is about teamwork – sharing your skills, learning from others, and making sure the organisation continues to thrive and adapt to the needs of women today.

Why Become a Trustee?

Becoming a trustee is an opportunity to make a real difference. You’ll be part of a passionate community working to improve the lives of women, influence strategy, and help create a fairer, more inclusive society.

As a trustee, you’ll help ensure every voice is represented — shaping how we grow, serve, and listen. It’s also a fantastic way to develop your leadership skills, expand your network, and gain experience in governance and strategic decision-making.

Our current board is made up of extraordinary women from a diverse range of backgrounds. Our trustees are Scottish, Irish, English and Punjabi; bisexual, lesbian and heterosexual; with the youngest in their 20’s and oldest in their 60’s. This diverse group of women ensures that BWC is always acting with the needs of every kind of woman who may need us, in mind.

We feel it is critical that our board represents a cross section of the women we support, and as a part of this recruitment drive, we are keen to hear from women of black and minority backgrounds.

Your perspective matters — and your contribution could help us create lasting change.

If you’re ready to bring your perspective, expertise, and passion to the board, we’d love to hear from you.
