Emergency Food and Crisis Support at Christmas

One donation, twice the impact for women struggling to care for themselves and feed their families.

Food insecurity is the highest it has ever been. The cost-of-living crisis is impacting families right now and BWC has recently seen a 42% increase in demand for our foodbank and support services.

Every donation we receive between 29 November - 6 December will be matched by The Big Give meaning BWC can help more families in crisis this Christmas.

"As well as needing emergency food, the women we support are often facing multiple other challenges. They may have complex physical or mental health conditions, traumatic backgrounds, unstable housing and have limited contact with services and support networks. Many have nowhere else to turn for help."

Emma Walsh, Foodbank Manager

BWC works with many of the most vulnerable marginalised women across Sussex, including women who are homeless, women in the criminal justice system, elderly women, women on low incomes and those struggling with long-term mental and physical health conditions.

Please donate today

Your donation will ensure that our weekly foodbank service can continue to provide essential food to women and their families who are in crisis in a safe, women-only environment.

And that trained volunteers are on hand offer emotional support as well as help on specific issues such as domestic abuse, relationships, social isolation, homelessness, financial hardship, unemployment, hate crimes, discrimination and mental health issues.

Your support this Christmas means volunteers can provide meaningful contact for vulnerable women experiencing isolation.

Your support will help us to...

  • ensure that our weekly foodbank service can continue to provide essential food to women who are in crisis in a safe, women-only environment, and deliver food to women who cannot get to the foodbank themselves. The service supports up to 115 households during the year.
  • maintain a core team of staff to recruit and train volunteers who will help set up and close the foodbank and pack food parcels according to the dietary requirements and individual needs of the women and families we support.
  • train volunteers - who are often the first point of contact with women in crisis - so they are able to provide relevant information to direct women to appropriate services and support to address financial and other issues they may be facing.

The Big Give

From 29 November - 6 December 2022, we are being generously supported by The Big Give.

They will match any donations made to us during this time over on our Big Give page.

This means if you donate £20, we will receive £40, which will make such a difference to the women we can help.

Just use any of the donate buttons on this page to be taken to the Big Give donation page.

We are very grateful for your support. Thank you.
