The pre-school, run by BWC (Brighton Women’s Centre), has been rated “Outstanding” in all areas after a recent inspection.

Inspectors observed children thoroughly enjoying the inclusive and nurturing pre-school, crediting staff with their knowledge and relationships with the children and for delivering a superbly planned, varied and well-thought-out, flexible curriculum.

Children attending ToyBox Early Years benefit from the staff’s superb interactions, enabling them to progress rapidly in their communication and social skills. Alongside this, ToyBox staff are noted as being highly enthusiastic about their work, with children’s voices and well-being at the heart of the pre-school.

Lisa Dando, BWC Director, said, “I am absolutely delighted with the outcome of our latest inspection and congratulate Gemma and her team for their outstanding achievements. I’d like to thank them for their dedication and commitment to creating a safe and nurturing environment for children at ToyBox in its unique setting as part of the wider support network provided for women and children at BWC.”

The ToyBox mission
“ToyBox envisions a world where all children are honoured and respected for their potential, capabilities, and humanity.”

Children were shown to be highly valued, respected and strongly supported by nurturing practitioners. Children with SEND were exceptionally well supported, with teaching being adapted to ensure they were fully included in the day’s exciting events.

Gemma Turner, ToyBox Manager said: “We are humbled by the result of our recent inspection. The team has worked tirelessly to achieve the very highest standard of practice. We have developed a pedagogy that draws on philosophies with purpose which meets the individual needs of each child, and as an extension of this, we have developed a bespoke service that provides wrap-around care for women, children and families of the children that attend.”

The feedback from parents was fantastic too. Parents commented about the invaluable support that Ms Turner and her staff provide, with many stating “they would be lost without them” and “they are like family”.
