Lisa Dando speaks to Cosmopolitan about the importance of new funding for Women’s Centres

In a recent interview with Cosmopolitan, BWC Director Lisa Dando discusses the effect a custodial sentence could have on the women we support and the importance of trauma informed practice to help reduce reoffending.

“The prison system is damaging in so many different ways and I’m also not convinced that the rehabilitation work that takes place inside, especially for women on short term sentences, which the majority are, has enough time to really make a difference. It seems illogical [to break families up in this way] when there are alternatives, like women’s centres and non-custodial sentences, which are proven to work.”

Following the announcement of a £15million government cash injection into 40 women’s charities and centres in England and Wales to support those at risk of reoffending, Cosmopolitan interviews some of the women who use our services and finds out what impact involvement with women’s centres like BWC has had on their lives.
