Meet The Team

The Director of BWC is Lisa Dando, who has worked with women’s organisations in the community and voluntary sector in Brighton & Hove for over 20 years and has a background in mental health service provision.

BWC employs a team of 40 members of full and part time staff. The core staff members are supported by an invaluable team of 30 volunteers who are involved in every level of the organisation and in all services. Volunteers come from all sections of the community and with a commitment to support other women.

Board of Trustees

The BWC Trustee Board consists of seven Trustees. They meet regularly with the Director and are responsible for ensuring we operate legally and meet Charity Commission requirements. Trustees undertake training on specific areas of development, including fundraising, financial responsibilities and strategic planning. Meet our Board below.

Passionate about the social change agenda, Amber has worked closely with many charities to drive the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion agenda forward and brings a balanced understanding of the complex and evolving landscape facing charities.

Amber has a strong background in Fundraising and Communications, having worked for charities including St John Ambulance, Alzheimer’s Society, Make a Wish UK and Vision Action. As a director, she is a member of the Institute of Fundraising and also brings real energy to her role as a mentor in the Global Peer to Peer Support Network, which facilitates young talent to access the world of fundraising.

Mary D’Arcy, (she/her), Treasurer

Mary first moved to Brighton nearly 40 years ago and has lived here continuously for the last 24 years and is now at a stage in her life and career when she can give more time to those things she is personally invested in and passionate about, such as working to eradicate gender inequality and misogyny and support those women who need our help the most.

Mary worked in public service for over 30 years in many roles. Including being a Chief Executive in Probation, and in senior roles in Civil Service and Local Government – much of her work focussed on supporting and enabling communities to thrive whilst tackling social inequality.  Mary now works as a consultant working with leadership teams and organisations supporting individuals and teams to collaborate to improve the outcomes and lives for the communities that they serve.

Currently, Joey serves as the Global Head of Revenue Collection, where she leads a team spread across various regions, focusing on collections and financial operations. Throughout her career, Joey has taken on senior roles in which she implemented effective risk policies, managed complex debt portfolios, and built productive relationships with third-party agencies—all to optimise financial outcomes. Joey had developed a particular strength in revenue generation and financial planning and is passionate about using these skills to deliver meaningful results.

Tallulah Frankland (she/her)

Tallulah has lived in Brighton for over 20 years. She first came to BWC in 2019, to facilitate a focus group with women and staff while working for central government. Tallulah went on to write the first policy on how pregnant women and mothers should be supported in prison and has since worked at the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman, on social cohesion in the Ministry for Housing, Communities and Local Government, and now leads a Ministerial Private Office. Alongside her Trustee role at BWC, Tallulah has been an Independent Visitor to a young person in care at Brighton & Hove Council for over five and a half years.

Tallulah cares deeply about social justice and lifting women up to reach their potential. She brings policy, strategy and mentoring experience to the table and wants to empower the team at BWC to keep being brilliant. Tallulah is particularly interested in helping to ensure the Board is inclusive and representative of all the communities the centre serves and enabling access to services women who are experiencing barriers to support systems.
