Brighton Women’s Centre are taking part in the Women and Girls Match Fund 2022 to raise £20,000 in just one week!

We need to raise vital funds to ensure that our low-cost Women’s Counselling and Psychotherapy Service can continue to provide specialist support for self-identifying women who are struggling with suicidal thoughts as a result of the impact of trauma on their lives.

Without this service, women in desperate need of help, may be at risk of taking their own lives.

“94% of the women referred to therapy are at high risk of suicide, self-harming behaviours and severe isolation. They need support and they need it now…”
Lisa Dando, Director

These might be the most socially excluded women across the county who need 1:1 therapeutic support they do not feel safe enough to access elsewhere. There is a need for heavily subsidised therapeutic support due to the inability of women on low incomes being able to access it, a lack of low cost services in the area and demand exceeding provision locally.

BWC has been supporting women with complex needs for over 45 years and has developed an effective trauma responsive model that supports women meet their underlying, complex and interrelated practical and emotional needs. We offer 12 sessions of individual counselling or psychotherapy. The service is low cost (starting at £5) and operates a sliding scale according to household income to ensure that psychological support is accessible.

Donations to My Story, My Life will be generously matched by DCMS’ Tampon Tax Fund during the appeal meaning the funds received can support twice as many women struggling with suicidal thoughts.

“We’re hoping to raise £10,000 in online donations. With match funding we will receive £20,000 in total for our Women’s Counselling and Psychotherapy Service meaning BWC can provide more therapy to more women when they need it.”

Visit theBigGive.org.uk and make a donation from 12pm (midday) today #IWD2022 (Tuesday, 8th March). The appeal will close at 12pm on Tuesday 15th March.
