On the 9th of March Brighton Women’s centre hosted an amazing International Women’s Day event at the Brighton Dome.

The free and inclusive event was organised to celebrate and inspire women as well as raise awareness of BWC and the work we do supporting women and families across Sussex. The event proved tremendously successful, offering visitors a day filled with uplifting discussions, workshops, talks, arts and crafts, music, dance, and advocacy campaigns.

Visitors started the day in a positive way with Soulshine Dance enjoying inspirational music, movement, meditation and mindfulness and connecting to the feel-good energies within their hearts, bodies and minds.

BWC were delighted to welcome back the super talented Aneesa Chaudhry to this year’s IWD celebration with her Sing Your Heart Out workshop. With fun songs, vocal improvisation and dancing the stage was full of music, joy and laughter!

Also taking to the stage were the Hangleton and Knoll Multi Cultural Women’s Group with a fantastic Bollywood dance performance.

Fashion lovers were treated to the inspirational workshop from Sophia Lorimer on how to wear what you love and dress with confidence and dress sustainably for success and guests were empowered by Ali from Ocean Breeze Wellbeing and her talk on the menopause.

Throughout the day there were numerous performances and workshops to be enjoyed including Soul Circus workshops interactive storytelling workshop, Tessa Foley performing a celebration of feminist poetry and qualified trainer and life coach Brenda Pollack advising on how we can prioritise our mental wellbeing.

With more uplifting performances from We Bop Choir, The Sing Space Musical Theatre Choir and a Palestinian Folk Step Dance, audiences were delighted to take to the stage and join in the fun!

There were crafts galore for younger visitors with Femigami, bracelet making with Zena and tea light making with Clay Wild Studios! Magician Stephanie pro was also on hand to wow visitors with her magical skills!

The Girls Network Speed mentoring session and Maggie Gordon-Walker, founder of Mothers Uncovered talk “My Universal Credit Campaign” was insightful and helpful to all those in attendance.

Certified Coach & NLP Master Practitioner Jess Nicks took participants on a wild and emotional ride exposing the many ways we limit our minds by seeking permission instead of granting it!

The marketplace was a hive of activity with exhibitors from a range of local businesses, charities and campaign organisations as well as craft sessions with our ToyBox team whose fairy wands were spreading a little IWD magic around the dome!

IWD 2024 was a fantastic day, and we would like to thank everybody who attended the event and all our staff and volunteers who worked incredibly hard to make the event a success!
