On Sunday the 21st of January, BWC hosted a fundraising music event at The Brunswick. Voices against Violence was a fantastic evening of live music from a group of amazing performers.

This event was organised by our team of volunteers who worked tirelessly to ensure the evening was a huge success!

Despite the terrible weather the venue was full, and it was great to see so many people turn out to support BWC.

The gig was opened by the extremely talented Lennyoxz performing her own original material and it is fair to say that she started the evening off with a bang!

The brilliant Sundaughter was next up performing her latest single “Blood” and getting the audience involved with her set! Sundaughters’s music combines artpop, folk and electronica, whilst exploring the cyclical nature of being a woman.

Next up to the stage was the amazing Deanna Wiggs who had returned to the stage once again for BWC. Having previously performed at Shift Happens it was a pleasure to see her perform her own material with her ukulele and discuss her experience of working with BWC.

Female-fronted alt rock band Porcelain Doll’s set delivered fuzzy guitar, primal drums and hooky choruses and injected some rock into the evening! Introducing their new bass guitarist, they delivered a fantastic set.

Finally closing the gig was Previziona. The Brighton based modern rock band delivered a powerful performance and left the crowd wanting more!

Feedback from the gig was incredibly positive!

“I had a really lovely experience with the Brighton woman’s centre, the volunteers were very accommodating for any queries I had and helped to ease my nerves, very happy to have played!”

“I was so pleased to be invited to sing at Brighton Women Centre’s ‘Voices Against Violence’ gig, to celebrate 50 years of the charity. The charity has a special place in my heart, so I was very happy to support them in this way! The organisers were excellent at providing me with the information I needed pre-gig, and I felt very looked after once there. The event ran smoothly and there was a joyous atmosphere. I’d love to work with them again!”

“Working with BWC really has been such an incredible life changing experience for me, you all have inspired me to be unapologetically myself. Even though you had only briefly heard me perform, you amazed me by holding so much faith in me to perform for such an amazing event and fundraiser! Thank you so much for taking a chance on me and encouraging me to push myself outside of my comfort zone. I am so excited to continue working with you all in the future, the run through of the night was smooth, easy, and not stressful at all!”
