With more families relying on our foodbank than ever our 2023 Christmas foodbank appeal “Full tummies for Christmas” was launched to help provide emergency food so that families in Brighton wouldn’t go hungry over the festive period.
At Brighton Women’s Centre we know that many women in Brighton are finding it difficult to feed themselves and their families. This time of year, is especially difficult as many are forced to choose between heating their homes and feeding their children.
BWC’s foodbank already provides food and support to women in crisis in Brighton.
However, our foodbank is over capacity. Due to the cost-of-living crisis, more families than ever are relying on our foodbank, and we urgently needed to raise funds to buy additional food to ensure we are not forced to turn anyone away.
The response to our appeal was overwhelming and BWC are delighted to announce that the appeal raised £9454 and the generous support from all that donated helped BWC provide emergency food to families in Brighton, including the mothers who would be missing meals to feed their children.
“Funds raised through this campaign will make a real difference to families facing financial hardship across Brighton and Hove this winter. Thanks to your support we have been able to move more women off our food bank waiting list and into regular appointments and are now in a much stronger position going into 2024. This year we hope to be able to provide more families with more food than ever before; something which would not be possible without such generous support from our community. We really cannot thank you enough.”
– Emma Walsh Foodbank Manager
BWC would like to take this opportunity say a huge thank you to everybody who donated to the appeal, your donations helped fill hungry tummies over Christmas.
