ToyBox Volunteer Early Years Assistant

BWC is at the forefront of a movement actively supporting women and girls with multiple vulnerabilities across Sussex, working collaboratively with both voluntary and statutory partners to achieve positive outcomes. 

BWC places women and their children at the heart of its services, with a holistic and trauma informed approach based on co-production principles. We are driven to achieve positive and fulfilling futures for women we work with, many of whom have multiple needs. 

BWC is part of a wider network of women’s centres and gender responsive providers contributing to ongoing research on good practice and innovation in services for women. We proactively work to identify and address the underlying areas of need in the women we support and position our services to work with them. 

Volunteer Early Years Assistant (5 hrs per week on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. Starting September) 

Volunteer EYA will work in the ToyBox pre-school service helping staff to provide a caring, secure environment for children aged 0-5 using the service. 

We ask EYA to commit to volunteering for a minimum of 5 hours each week on the same day of the week (term time only) for a minimum of 12 months. 

Whilst the ToyBox pre-school is available to all families living in Brighton & Hove, many children using this service will have been linked in as a result of their mother/female carer’s use of one of BWC’s other services. It is therefore vital that anyone applying to volunteer in this setting have a sensitive, empathic and non-judgmental approach and an interest in supporting children during potentially difficult times in their lives. 

Teamwork is vital to the success and professional standard of the centre and all volunteers are encouraged to take an active part in regular meetings and contribute to the general development of the centre. This may also include taking responsibility for specific areas of work. 

Volunteers are offered supervision in groups and support through the end of session de-brief with the ToyBox Manager. Strict adherence to confidentiality, particularly in respect of personal details and background of workers and clients is required of all workers. 

What support do volunteers receive?
Volunteers will receive induction training, on-going training and regular supervision from the ToyBox Manager as well as access to our comprehensive E-learning package. 

We are able to cover reasonable local travel expenses (up to the cost of a Brighton & Hove daily saver bus ticket) and offer references after one year of volunteering with us. 

We particularly welcome applications from women who are multi-lingual or are from Black and Minority Ethnic groups.
